Who are League Members?

We are an inclusive group that values and encourages diversity in ideas, identities and political persuasions.  We welcome new members age 16 and older of all races, genders, religions and socioeconomic backgrounds.  We seek to expand our diversity in order to broaden our perspective and better serve all communities.

What are the Guiding Principles of the League?

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government.  We never support or oppose any political party or candidate.

While securing voter rights is our foundational endeavor, we have expanded our advocacy to fulfill our civic duties of devising good governance. Our volunteers work year-round to register voters, secure fair elections, host community forums and debates, provide voters with election information and protect voter rights.

We engage at the local and state levels on legislative issues.  After study and member agreement, we use our positions to advocate for or against particular policies in the public interest.

How much time does being a member take?

It is up to you.

Many members choose to support the League only with their annual dues--defending democracy is getting expensive.

Your membership alone provides the political influence needed for citizen impact.

We cover a broad spectrum of issues and concerns; you may choose to become involved in any of them by actively participating on a committee or simply listening to experts at a meeting or at home just reading about them in one of our publications.

What will I get?

Membership with the League of Women Voters of Kansas City/Jackson-Clay-Platte Counties (LWVKC) includes state and national membership in LWV Missouri and LWV United States.
You will have access to comprehensive resources and publications produced by local, state and national LWV.
LWVKC is a 501(c) 3 and all, dues and donations are tax deductible.

Membership in the League gives you an opportunity for non-partisan fellowship focused on developing more engaged citizens and creating a more transparent government.
