What's Up With the League
The Call and Annual Meeting
By Melanie Busse, President
The Call was emailed via Club Express to all members on Tuesday, April 21. The Call contains materials to review prior to the annual meeting on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the Trails West Branch of the Kansas City Public Library, 11401 E. 23 St. South, Independence, MO.
Members were provided the agenda, minutes from the 2025 annual meeting, the Board Recommended Program, 2027 Budget, and Nominating Committee Report for 2026 Officers and Directors and for the 2027 Nominating Committee.
You are able to attend in person or via Zoom. We meet at 9:30 a.m. for social time prior to the 10 a.m. meeting. Voting is required and a quorum is needed to conduct the business meeting, so we hope you are able to join us. The Zoom link is found on the website calendar.
Let us know if you did not receive the email with the included materials by emailing lwvkc@lwvkc.org.

Website Help Wanted
By Melanie Busse, President
The website team is looking for an individual (or individuals) to help update and maintain sections on the website, specifically under the "Happening Now" section’s subheadings "What the League is doing" and "What you can do." We need someone to make sure the messaging from LWVUS and LWVMO gets passed to our members. This is a task that could be done from your own home, whenever you have the time. You would need to be able to review the LWVUS and LWVMO websites and social media accounts, and be able to submit updated information via a form found on the website.
Please contact Melanie Busse at president@lwvkc.org if you think you are in a position to help, or need further information.
Forums for August Primary
By Elizabeth Darr, Forums Committee Chair
Voters in the August primary election may find themselves in new Congressional districts. As of this writing, there are 24 candidates running for Congress, six for Jackson County executive and 23 for the Jackson County legislature (but stay tuned). The Forums Committee is in the planning stages of producing forums for these races. If you'd like to join us, please contact forums@lwvkc.org.
For the April election, we produced 10 forums with nearly 2000 views on YouTube. Want to help out? Grab a friend and attend one of our forums live. They only last 90 minutes and the candidates appreciate the audience.
