We Need You!

In order for our league to take action at the required annual meeting on Saturday May 9, we must have a QUORUM!  Given our current membership of 291 members as of April 16, 2026, we need at least 44 members in attendance (in person & via zoom) in order to VOTE on our program, elect officers and directors and conduct business described in this notice.

President's Letter to the Membership

2026 Annual Meeting

As I complete my first year as President of the LWVKC/JCP, I realize that the reputation of the League as a respected, nonpartisan voice is needed more than ever to help lead the fight to save democracy and protect the right of everyone to vote and have their voices heard. And what we can offer our members and our communities is in high demand, especially as we move through this election year.

April 19 -25 is National Volunteer Appreciation Week, and it is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate our dedicated individuals who power our work.  Our League survives because of our volunteers and our donors.  Your passion and dedication helps drive our mission forward every day.

Without volunteers we would not be able to register citizens to vote or provide tools to help voters make informed decisions. It will be a busy year, so if you have time, contact some of our committee chairs and ask what you can do to help. As our membership grows we want you to know that there is a place in the League for everyone!  Whether you want to volunteer behind the scenes with tech support, or prefer meeting the public, we have a job for you to do!

Our voter services, voter education, and forums teams have been busy the past few months, and their calendars are filling up with requests from the community as we move into the primary and general election season. Our membership team has been busy scheduling events across the city for new and current members to get to know each other.

The best way for you to learn what our league is doing is to visit the website, LWVKC.org. Please contact our  membership team if you have trouble signing onto the website. Check the calendar for volunteer opportunities, or sign up for the volunteer corp to get a weekly notification of volunteer opportunities.

Our annual meeting is Saturday, May 9, at the Trails West Branch of the Kansas City Library, 11401 East 23rd St S, Independence, MO 64052.  We will gather at 9:30 for social time before the meeting begins at 10:00 am.  Please review all the materials provided in this email, and be prepared to vote on our program, budget, officers and directors and nominating committee members for the upcoming year.  We have to meet quorum, so please try to make time to join us.  You can also attend via zoom with the link provided.  We will have people monitoring the chat room and counting votes from zoom attendees.
